As we get ready to celebrate the arrival of 2025, public transit services across the Greater Toronto Area are making it easier (and safer!) to get to and from your New Year’s Eve celebrations. Enjoy free transit services on December 31, 2024! Whether you’re heading downtown to catch the fireworks or celebrating close to home, you can leave the car at home and count on these great services to get around.
Here’s a breakdown of the free services and extended schedules across the GTA:
TTC – Free Rides on New Year’s Eve
🕖 Free from 7 p.m. on December 31 to 8 a.m. on January 1
Courtesy of J.P. Wiser’s, the TTC will offer free travel across its entire system. Subway service will run until 3 a.m., and the Blue Night Network of buses and streetcars will operate all night long.

GO Transit – Ride Free on New Year’s Eve
🕖 Free from 7 p.m. on December 31 to 8 a.m. on January 1
GO Transit is offering free travel across its trains and buses, with additional trips added and adjusted for the night to ensure safe and convenient travel.
Don’t forget to tap your PRESTO, debit, or credit card as you board—your ride will still be free, but tapping helps GO plan better services for you in the future.

Durham Region Transit (DRT) – Free Fare, All Night Long
🕖 Free from 7 p.m. on December 31 to 4 a.m. on January 1
Durham Region Transit is offering free rides on all services, including scheduled and On-Demand routes. Plan your trip on the Transit App or visit DurhamRegionTransit.com for schedules.
York Region Transit (YRT) – Ride Free and Safe
🕖 Free from 7 p.m. on December 31
York Region Transit is offering free service with extended late-night service to ensure you get home safely after your celebrations.

MiWay – Free Rides and Extended Service
🕖 Free from 7 p.m. on December 31 to 4 a.m. on January 1
MiWay will provide free transit and extend late-night service on the following key routes until 2 a.m.:
- 1 Dundas
- 2 Hurontario
- 3 Bloor
- 5 Dixie
- 7 Airport
- 10 Bristol-Britannia

Brampton Transit – Celebrate with Free Rides
🕖 Free from 7 p.m. on December 31 until service ends
Brampton Transit will also offer extended service on select routes, including 6 James Potter, 8 Centre, 24 Van Kirk, and 26 Mount Pleasant, until approximately 1:30 a.m.

Union Station will be very busy on New Year’s Eve, so plan your trip accordingly to avoid crowds and delays. Give yourself extra time if you’re transferring between services or heading downtown for festivities.
